The Center For
Cranial Base Surgery

Comprehensive Surgical Capability

The Center for Cranial Base Surgery
is one of few centers in the US, capable of removing skull base tumors using virtually all types of standard (open) and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
The Center for Cranial Base Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital, provides patients and their physicians with a comprehensive resource for the removal of tumors, and the treatment of defects and disorders located at the base of the brain, or near facial structures. Nowhere in the human body are so many neurological and vascular structures so densely concentrated. These intertwined nerves, arteries and sensing organs enable us to see, hear, speak and move.

A Multi-disciplinary Surgical Team

Our multi-disciplinary surgical team
combines state-of-the-art technologies with the expertise of neurosurgery, head and neck surgery, neuro-otology, neuro-anesthesiology and plastic surgery. We unite specialists in radiation therapy, medical oncology, interventional radiology and minimally invasive spine surgery. Other supporting disciplines include neuroradiology, physical rehabilitation and intensive care. Specially trained nurses, and speech and swallowing therapists provide vital assistance.

Our team approach allows safe access to, and removal of tumors at the base of the brain, without neurological impairment. Our specialists restore patients to their pre-surgical appearance and function. It is this comprehensive team approach that differentiates The Center for Cranial Base Surgery from the vast majority of other facilities where cranial base surgery is performed.

The Center’s Director, Peter Costantino, MD, FACS is fellowship trained specifically in cranial base surgery. This dual fellowship training in cranial base surgery has allowed Dr. Costantino to select and apply either open, or minimally invasive endoscopic surgical techniques, for the optimal treatment of patients.
